Our Korean Shows - Behind the Scenes

Thinking back to our Korean shows, I remember the enthusiastic applause and even howling from the audience, late night dance classes on cold granite lobby tiles, the delectable smell of barbecued meat, and frenzied shopping splurges on Korean cosmetics. But the most memorable thing was the heartfelt hospitality of our local organizers.

Korea for us was two weeks of sleeplessness, running around from one show and one city to the next. I felt the strain, but I’d like to pay tribute to the locals who shared the strain—the people behind the scenes always smiling and waiting on our needs. If we left the hotel for the next stop at 7:00 in the morning, they were up long before us, ready to see us off. If we stopped by a restaurant, they were there before we arrived, making sure we got to dig in as soon as we took off our coats.

I remember dropping by our snack room late one night—this is a hotel room the organizers decked out with snacks, drinks, a personal laundry service—to find a little lady curled up on a bed. Worried that my entrance might have woken her up, I began to quietly depart. She caught me before I took a few steps, and sprang right up. After quickly fixing her hair and brushing down her suit, she asked me what she could do to serve me: “Are you hungry?” “Do you want something to drink?” “This snack here is really good, have you tried it?” I felt so horrible for waking her up, and could tell she hadn’t slept well in days.

Everywhere we go, there’s the huge support of organizers making our show possible. From the theater bookers to ticket sellers to the wardrobe help to the catering team—so many people are in it with us, making our mission a reality. We owe them a lot. They’re our foundation holding us up.

    THANK YOU!!
