Shen Yun Reviews: Mainland Chinese Stage Director: ‘Never Seen Such Purity’
NEW YORK—Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company performed the second of five shows at New York City’s Lincoln Center Jan. 12th. Mr. Song, a theater arts professional from Mainland China, was among the audience.
“I feel that this is a very pure performance, so pristine. This purity emanated from the performer’s bodies. I could sense the joy that came from each dancer’s soul. Their hearts were very together, and free of any adulterated influences from Mainland [China],” said Mr. Song, “Not only this, but their artistry leaves one with a lasting sensation that is so marvelous.”
Mr. Song, who manages stage production for plays, dramas and operas in China, encounters performances of every kind regularly. However, he attests he’s never seen a show that affected him on such a spiritual level.
“I’ve watched so many productions in the Mainland, but none like tonight’s. I feel that every movement in the Shen Yun dances is so soothing, beautiful, and sincere. These are the stuffs of genuine culture from traditional China, and drastically contrasting with performances from Mainland Chinese. I was truly captivated body and soul.”
“The programs content is easy to understand. The colors and costumes are gorgeous. Each dance displayed the unique features of China’s distinct ethnic groups, filled with their rich flavors.”
“The dancers’ performance was so intricate, beautiful, and true to life. The backdrop wholly integrated with the happenings on stage. The performers, choreographers, and directors are true artists! Such a splendid production should be seen by everyone.”
“This performance penetrated my innermost emotions. Very powerful, very powerful, so very powerful!” he said, “I’m very thankful. Very thankful.”
