Dancer Says 'It was absolutely beautiful'
HOUSTON—Shen Yun Performing Arts staged its third and final show at Jones Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 23. The audience members give a standing ovation at the end of the performance.
Ms. McWilliams is currently a ballroom dancer, but performed ballet for 17 years. She was impressed by Shen Yun’s depiction of 5,000 years of Chinese history through song, dance, and orchestral music.
“I thought it was excellent. I've really never seen anything like it. It was absolutely beautiful. I love the costumes especially.
“I'm really, really inspired. I feel like I want to use some of that in my choreography.
“I thought it was interesting how they moved across the stage … so that was a really cool dynamic for me to see.
Ms. McWilliams was particularly impressed by the female dancers.
“Everyone was technically proficient, they were excellent,” she said.
“I have never seen classical Chinese dancing before, so a lot of the movements were different than what I am used to, and it was really, really cool."
Ms. McWilliams also appreciated of the male dancers.
“It was beautiful to watch."
Ms. McWilliams really enjoyed the storytelling in the performances.
“It was a different kind of story, but really awesome. I really enjoyed that.”
Ms. McWilliams came to see Shen Yun with her Chinese friend Ms. Wu, a consultant, who was also delighted by all she experienced. She knew stories like the Monkey King.
“It was nice to see it. … It was really colorful," she said.
