Shen Yun ‘Absolutely magical,’ Says U.N. Official
NEW YORK—Amongst the sold-out crowd at Shen Yun Performing Arts at Lincoln Center in Manhattan Saturday night Jan 14, was a U.N. official who was so determined, she searched for a ticket until the last minute.
“It was sold out when I looked a few days ago but I went back online yesterday and found a single ticket, so I took it,” Carman Lapointe, United Nations Under-Secretary General for Internal Oversight Services, said, “Otherwise I would’ve brought friends.”
“It was fantastic, absolutely wonderful.”
“I’ve always understood that Chinese culture was very rich in its history. I mean, it’s so much older than any other culture that we really know,” she said, “So [Shen Yun] really gave me a better understanding.”
Ms. Lapointe said she had been impressed with so many aspects of the show: “the dancing is fantastic, the costumes and the color, obviously the choreography, just the way the messages came through, it’s absolutely magical,” she said.
“The orchestra was fantastic, the singers, the sopranos, the tenors were just wonderful.”
Ms. Lapointe said she was fascinated to experience “the messages of the many millennium of the Chinese culture,” in Shen Yun, and noted, with pleasure, how varied the audience was.
“I saw many young people in the audience who really were appreciating the music and the spectacle,” she said, “So I really think it’s just a wonderful opportunity.”
“You could really tell people were enjoying it, just the oohing and ahhing.”
Ms. Lapointe said Shen Yun had been a “magical evening” adding that she would be returning to see Shen Yun again—this time with friends.
